Meeting to discuss issues facing Quakers in London 27 April 2013

Minute

We have been considering some of the issues facing Quakers across London.  We have been inspired by the question Paul Parker posed us this morning – ‘what is the ministry of your meeting?’

We are concerned that we have too many jobs and we need to consider how we can reduce the workload, which would allow us to be less focused on our internal problems, and look outside more.  We need both fewer jobs and better sharing of roles to involve more people and reduce the burden.  Team jobs were discussed, such as an Area Meeting treasuring team, which would also make it easier to employ help.

Rather than set up a new group to steer this work, we encourage local and area meetings to work from the ground up.  We ask London Quakers to host a meeting of Local Meeting clerks, Area Meeting clerks, Area Meeting trustees, and representatives from Six Weeks Meeting to discuss further ways of reducing work and share existing good practice.

We ask the clerk to forward this minute to Local Meeting clerks, Area Meeting clerks, Area Meeting trustees, and Six Weeks Meeting.

Keith Walton

Clerk, London Quakers
